Danish Ambassador: Stepping up Vietnam - Denmark cooperation
On February 25, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh welcomed newly-appointed Danish Ambassador to Vietnam Charlotte Laursen.
During his reception for the diplomat in Hanoi, Minh expressed his joy at the fruitful development of the Vietnam-Denmark comprehensive partnership. He said that Vietnam always attaches importance to further developing friendship and cooperation with Denmark.
The host spoke highly of the recent signing of a joint action plan in 2016, which aimed to accelerate bilateral cooperation in politics-diplomacy, economics, environment, education-training and culture.
He thanked the Danish Government for its provision of ODA assistance to Vietnam, and asked for closer links between the embassy and Vietnamese ministries, sectors and localities, towards deepening bilateral ties in all fields.
Ambassador Charlotte Laursen said her country wishes to further ties with Vietnam – one of the ten prioritised partners in Denmark’s Growth Strategy. She pledged to work closely with the Vietnamese foreign ministry and other agencies to enhance the efficiency of joint projects with Vietnam in the future, especially in climate change adaptation, environment, energy and green growth.
The guest also underlined the need to foster connection between Vietnamese and Danish enterprises in order to take advantage of benefits of the upcoming Vietnam-EU free trade agreement.
The two sides should coordinate in organising events to promote mutual understanding and cooperation on the occasion of the 45 th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, he added.

She said she hopes the Vietnam-Denmark relations will enter into a new chapter with stronger development in the future. The country is now Vietnam’s largest provider of non-refundable aid in the European Union.
In 2014-2015, a total of 90 million USD of non-refundable aid from Denmark was disbursed for Vietnam in the fields of green growth, climate change adaptation, private sector development, clean water, culture and public administration. Two-way trade between the two countries hit 480 million USD in 2014, up 6.45 percent from the previous year. The annual event to enhance connection between the two nations was hosted by the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association.
The Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry signed a joint action plan in 2016 in Hanoi on February 23, as part of effort to continue implementing the joint statement on comprehensive partnership between the two countries. The 2016 action plan set out priorities and cooperative projects with a view to accelerating bilateral cooperation in politics-diplomacy, trade-investment, green growth-environment, education-research, and culture-people-to-people exchange.
In 2016, Vietnam and Denmark are celebrating the 45 th anniversary of their diplomatic ties with a host of visit and cultural exchanges.
