Da Nang provides teaching program with documents on Hoang Sa
This is part of the locality’s long-term efforts to help local youngsters have comprehensive understanding of the country’s indisputable sovereignty over Hoang Sa archipelago.
The central city of Da Nang has stepped up the compilation of documents on its Hoang Sa (Paracel) island district for teaching in all local schools from the 2014-2015 academic year.
Earlier, local authorities have conducted an array of activities to collect and introduce to the public documents showing Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelago.
During his office tenure in 2009-2014, former Chairman of the Hoang Sa district People’s Committee Dang Cong Ngu organised hundreds of exhibitions at home and abroad, showcasing related historical evidence and items collected by himself and researchers from Vietnam and foreign countries.
Among the exhibited items is a collection of materials introducing Hoang Sa and Truong Sa, which came from 102 books published in western countries between 18 th and 19 th centuries, and 150 maps and two atlas printed in various countries and territories, including the UK, Germany, Australia, Canada, the US and Hong Kong during the 1626-1980 period.
Particularly, the official arranged many tours to various localities to gather precious items and stories on Hoang Sa and meet people who fought to protect the archipelago in service of researches on Hoang Sa and Hoang Sa yearbook.
He was also working with relevant agencies to plan the opening of an exhibition hall dedicated to Hoang Sa that looks to the East Sea in the near future.
Established in January 1997, Hoang Sa district is a coral archipelago located 170 nautical miles, or about 315 kilometres, from Da Nang city.
Covering an area of 305 square kilometres, equivalent to 23.76 percent of Da Nang’s land, the district comprises many islands and islets, including Hoang Sa, Da Bac, Huu Nhat, Tri Ton, Phu Lam Con Cat Tay, Da Chim Yen and Da Thap.
