Hanoi Times - Mechanical component production in the city has generated many components that meet international standards, including a rotation axle for sewing machines, screws, springs, and electric cables for automobiles. Ten years ago, this industry supplied only 8 to 10 percent of the market's needs, but now it supplies 60 to 70 percent.
International standards
In recent years, many mechanical firms have replaced their equipment and hired foreign experts. Some mechanical products have now succeeded in domestic market and started penetrating overseas markets including Nhon Hoa scale, a rubber-rolling machine, and various engine's components.
"Some years ago, many garment firms had difficulty finding a spindle when one broke,” said Mr. Vo Thanh My, director of M.K Garment & Embroidery Company at Tan Tao Industrial Zone. “The market for sewing machine components was very small. It required us to place an order two or three months in advance from foreign companies. Now, the situation has changed, many domestic companies can produce these components with high quality."
Mr Tran Minh Giang, owner of a motorbike repair shop in
Futaba Vietnam Company in Tan Thuan export processing zone now provides many components of international standard. Thousands of companies bravely invested in technology, hiring foreign experts, and transferring agricultural machine technology. The city’s factories can now meet the requirements of 60 percent to 70 percent mechanical products, and among that export quantity is 40 percent.
Need a union
Currently, there are more than 42,000 industrial producers in the city which provide work for millions and play an important role in the economic development of the city in particular and the country as a whole.
In order to reach sustainable development and get ready for worldwide economic integration, the city is transferring economic structure towards and giving priority to industries which are in a position of strength and have a great impact on competition and the domestically and international.
Mr. Nguyen Van Be, deputy general director of joint venture construction in the Tan Thuan export processing zone. The company said that it is now produces mechanical equipment for industry. Due to existing barriers in infrastructure and policy, producers have to import materials at a high price.
Besides, companies still have separate production, low marketing capacity so they have not met the domestic and external requirements. Mr. Phan Minh Tan, director of science, of the city’s Technical Office said he thought that the government should allow the companies to take part in big projects together to solve problems regarding capital, levels of workers and techniques.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lai, former director of city’s Industry Office commented that the city initially had satisfactory results by transferring industrial structure and giving priority to industries that have a high impact. The industry of the city has developed and become more modern, effective and sustainable so that auxiliary industries have a chance to develop. Companies can become centers of production and export by focusing on auxiliary industry.
