Communist Party of Vietnam holds plenum, proceeding preparations for congress

The plenary session will focus on the preparations for the Party`s 13th National Congress in early 2021.
The 10th plenary session of the Party Central Committee takes place today [May 16] with an aim to review the Politburo’s directions on the congresses of party committees nationwide ahead of the National Congress which is slated for January 2021.

Chaired by the Party’s Secretary General and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, the three-day event focuses on the preparations for the Party’s 13th National Congress at grassroots levels. 

The session will cover the reports on the implementation of the Party’s disciplines in 2018 and the first months of 2019. The plenum also reviews the Party’s building process over the past years. 

The plenum also discusses draft documents on the party’s 2011 resolution, on socio-economic strategies in 2011-2020 and visions for 2021-2030, on socio-economic situation in 2016-2020 and visions for 2021-2025. 

Today is the third day marking the appearance of the the Party’s Chief and State President Nguyen Phu Trong after a month of sickness. On May 14, he chaired a meeting of top leaders including Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Executive member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong, and Secretary and Chief of the Party Central Committee’s Office Nguyen Van Nen.

On May 15, he chaired a meeting with the Politburo – the country’s most powerful body. 

At the meetings, the president asked the top leaders to keep surveillance on the country’s situation, typically personnel issues. He warned that personnel must be strictly selected for all levels, mostly high-ranking positions.

Of the issues, the fight against corruption remains the central point that the president put strong statements on.
