Commercial counsellors urged to take opportunities to remove trade barriers
The Ministry of Industry and Trade organised the 2016 Commercial Counsellor Conference in Hanoi on February 26. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung attended the event.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang said the conference aims to popularise guidelines of the 12th National Party Congress on increasing foreign trade activities when Vietnam is integrating deeper into the regional and world economies.
The event also aims to help Vietnamese businesses maximise opportunities created by free trade agreements which the country has signed.
Besides, the conference helps the Ministry of Industry and Trade tighten its coordination with other ministries, agencies and localities to complete the Government’s economic development targets, the minister said.
Minister Hoang suggested the counsellors make proposals to the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, agencies and localities as well as work with businesses to seek measures.
Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that commercial counsellors should play their roles as a bridge to help Vietnamese businesses strenghthen exports and promote their products abroad.
The Prime Minister urged the counsellors to take every opportunity to remove trade barriers and limit anti-dumping lawsuits.
The counsellors should provide more information about their host countries to Vietnamese businesses, protect their interests and propose expanding their list of export items in each individual market, the Government leader said.
During the event, the delegates discussed issues regarding international economic integration, trade promotion, competitiveness, international cooperation in industry, energy and agriculture, as well as solutions to boost the country’s exports.
Within the framework of the conference, the delegates also worked with representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to discuss how to attract more foreign investments in the farming sector and promote produce exports.
