"Clean Air - Green Hanoi" day among many efforts to protect city's environment
Through the event, the capital’s residents will access information on air quality and have more experience and useful knowledge of air pollution.
Hanoi in recent years has made great efforts to protect the city’s environment and improve air quality and "Clean Air - Green Hanoi" day is one of such efforts.
Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen The Hung made the statement at the "Clean Air - Green Hanoi" day held in the city on June 1 in response to the World Environment Day (June 5).
Through the event, the capital’s residents will access information on air quality and have more experience and useful knowledge of air pollution. Then, they will change their habits, contribute to protecting the environment and their health, families and community, Hung said.
The vice chairman added that the World Environment Day is an annual event with diverse response activities worldwide and has become a widespread movement in Vietnam. It contributes to raising people's awareness on environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and climate change response.
Recently, Hanoi’s air quality has shown signs of deterioration, especially in the downtown, main roads and construction sites. The daily air quality index (AQI) shows that the capital has reached the unhealthy level in many days, significantly affecting people's health and socio-economic development activities in the city, Hung stressed.
He said that Hanoi’s authority has made a lot of efforts with specific actions and commitments, such as actively calling and cooperating with many domestic and international organizations to improve air quality, installing air quality monitoring network and provide its residents with information, coordinating with reputable international organizations to identify emission sources, then effectively implementing solutions for air pollution reduction.
