Chinese arrivals to Vietnam fall 0.9% in eight months

Overall, the number of international holidaymakers to Vietnam in the first eight months of 2019 reached to 11.3 million, up 8.7% from a year earlier.
As many as 3.37 million Chinese visited Vietnam in the first eight months this year, down slightly 0.9% from the same period last year, according to General Statistics Office (GSO).

Chinese visotors still account for the lion's share among Vietnam's tourist markets, making up 29.8% of the total foreign tourist arrivals in the eight-month period.

During January – August period of this year, the number of Asian arrivals to Vietnam made up 78.1% of the total and experienced the fastest growth. Arrivals from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan (China), Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore surged 22.5%, 13.7%, 27.1%, 14.6%, 46.3%, and 5.1%, respectively

The number of international holidaymakers to Vietnam in the first eight months of 2019 reached to 11.3 million while the figure of August alone was estimated at 1.51 million, up 14.9% against July and 14.3% year-on-year.

The number of tourists from Europe was estimated to grow 5.3% year-on-year, with arrivals from Russia increasing 5.7%, Germany 5.6%, and the UK 4.5%.

Vietnam welcomed 676,000 visitors from the Western Hemisphere in in the January – August period, an increase of 6.2% year-on-year. Of the amount, 520.400 were from the US, up 7.1%.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors from Oceania slipped 1.5% to 296,000.

Of the foreign visitors in the eight months this year, 8.9 million came to Vietnam by air, up 5.6%, 2.2 million by road, up 24.9% and 171.800 by sea, down 6%.
