During today’s (August 22) regular press conference, Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said this will be the first official visit by a Chilean Foreign Minister to Vietnam. The visit will bolster the traditional and comprehensive friendship between the two nations and deepen bilateral cooperation in key areas such as trade, agriculture, culture, tourism, education, science and technology, and climate change response.

Additionally, the visit will seek to strengthen cooperation in implementing the free trade agreements between the two countries.

Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Foreign Affairs Minister Bui Thanh Son and participate in various other events.

Vietnam and Chile established diplomatic relations in March 1971, and in 2007, they elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership.

Both countries have signed a bilateral free trade agreement and are members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
