Changes in Vietnam’s cabinet

The resignation is reported out of "personal wishes."

The Government of Vietnam today [January 5] has two new deputy prime ministers replacing the pair dismissed on the same day by the National Assembly (NA).

Newly-appointed deputy PMs for the 2021-2026 term are Tran Hong Ha and Tran Luu Quang, replacing Pham Binh Minh and Vu Duc Dam, who are removed from the position of Deputy Prime Minister in the 2021-26 tenure.

The appointment was made by secret ballot at the NA’s extraordinary meeting, which was attended by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Standing Member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong.

Tran Hong Ha, 60, is the Natural Resources and Environment Minister. Tran Luu Quang, 56, is the Secretary of the Haiphong Party Committee.
