Can peppermint treat cancer
According to a research team at University of Salford (UK), an extract of peppermint’s leaves can cure cancer by destroying blood vessels supplying tumors
Leader of the research team Alan McGown said the strategy of this extract disenables main blood vessels supplying oxygen and nutrients to tumors which can not grow and be gradually destroyed.
Mr. McGown emphasizes that the advantage of peppermint extracts in comparison with other traditional therapies is the ability to identify targets. Only the blood vessels feeding cancer cells are its target.
The blood vessels of healthy tissues are not damaged. Mr. McGown said this extract will be the main ingredient of a "smart" drug destroying cancer cells without affecting healthy tissues. If it is successful, this will be the best solution for treatment of cancers.
However, Mr. McGown said: "There is much work to be done before this therapy is tested on patient's body." Currently, the effectiveness of peppermint leaves’ extract is confirmed on lung cancer cells and human’s breast in the laboratory
