Beauty queen’s marital status to be verified
VNN 15:22, 2014/03/05
The Performing Arts Department has asked HCM City Department of Tourism, Culture and Sports to clarify the doubt that Miss Vietnam World 2010 Diem Huong got married before attending the Miss Universe 2012 pageant.
Earlier, some local newspapers reported that Diem Huong got married with a businessman in 2011, before she represented Vietnam at the Miss Universe 2012 pageant.

It is said that on March 3, the Miss Universe organization sent an email to Unicorp, the agent that chose the Vietnamese contestant - Diem Huong. "We have discovered that the representative of Vietnam – Ms. Luu Thi Diem Huong - Miss Universe contestant in 2012, was married in 2011. This is a serious damage to the reputation of the Miss Universe organization. The Unicorp committed that the contestants are not married when they participate in this pageant," the email wrote.
However, Unicorp representatives said they could not comment on whether Diem Huong broke the rule until they have the evidence or Diem Huong admits her mistake.
Mr. Nguyen Dang Program – Head of the Department of Performing Arts - said that the Unicorp’s file only had the invitation of the Miss Universe organization and other papers, not the single statue certificate of Diem Huong.
"Because the file does not require a certificate of celibacy, so we can not verify it. If Diem Huong did not declare her married status belongs to her morals," Chuong said.
However, the agency has asked HCM City authorities to verify Diem Huong’s married status. If the beauty queen broke the rule, she would be punished.
Meanwhile, Diem Huong has kept silent. Her manager explained: "She is busy with a film project and some personal affairs so she cannot have an official answer. However, she will speak in an appropriate time, when she's ready."
Diem Huong has left HCM City to the southwestern region to play in a movie.
Diem Huong, born in 1990, won the title of Miss Vietnam World 2010. Shortly after her coronation, she was appointed to represent Vietnam at the Miss Earth 2010. She entered the semi-finals and won the Miss Bikini prize.
In 2012, she was Vietnam’s contestant at the Miss Universe but did not win any prize.
Diem Huong has always asserted herself as single, but recently a businessman filed for divorce against her in a court in Ho Chi Minh City.
The beauty queen is said to get married with this rich man in 2011, a year before her participation in the Miss Universe pageant.
