Awarding French order to former national library director
Former Director of the National Library of Vietnam Pham The Khang was honoured with the French Order of Arts and Literature awarded by French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Porier.
French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Porier presented the French Order of Arts and Literature to former Director of the National Library of Vietnam (NLV) Pham The Khang in Hanoi on March 9.
Addressing the awarding ceremony, Ambassador Jean-Noel Porier said in his term from 2000-2009 as NLV’s director, Khang made remarkable contributions to the popularisation of the French language and culture to Vietnamese people, and boosted the cooperation between the NLV and the France's National Library.
Former Director Khang also helped build an e-search system for nearly 60,000 French-language books, the French diplomat added.
The French Order of Arts and Literature, initiated in 1957, aims to honour outstanding inviduals whose creativeness in literature and fine arts has helped make a contribution to popularise arts and literature in France and other countries across the world.
In Vietnam, some famous individuals have been presented the order, including director Le Manh Thich, designer Minh Hanh, choreographer Nguyen Cong Nhac, writer Nguyen Huy Thiep, and translator Duong Tuong.
