ASEAN and Russia identify priorities in cultural cooperation
The Russian Federation and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held the first cultural ministerial meeting in the Russian city of Sochi on May 19.
The event was organised as part of the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN – Russia Commemorative Summit.
At the meeting, culture and arts ministers and officials from the ASEAN and Russia identified priorities in cultural cooperation between the two sides.
They issued a Joint Statement stressing the importance of strengthening cooperation and encouraging exchanges of youth, music, stage, fine art, applied art, the movie industry, and tourism promotion.
The delegates also stressed the need to create linkages in preservation, protection, renovation and use of relic sites, cultural heritages, and many other cultural fields.
Addressing the event, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien said that culture has been paid a special attention in Vietnam-Russia cooperation.
In June, Vietnam and Russia will jointly organise Vietnam Culture Days in Russia, one of the activities to strengthen Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

While fostering ties with ASEAN, Russia has regarded Vietnam as an important and effective gateway to help Moscow integrate into Southeast Asia, given the two countries time-honoured relationship and mutual trust.
Russia hopes that the unceasing advance of the Vietnam - Russia comprehensive strategic partnership will be a role model for it to reinforce ties with other ASEAN nations.
