Theaters in Hanoi have been hosting a variety of arts programs to raise funds for people affected by the storm and flooding in the north.

Responding to the call of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, many theaters in Hanoi have staged numerous performances to raise funds for people in flood-stricken.

Presented on the evening of September 22 at the Ho Guom Opera House in Hanoi, The List of Agents II is a play that praises the achievements of Vietnam's Public Security Intelligence Force throughout the country's history until peace was restored.

The work tells the story of the tragic struggle of spies in 1954, when the French withdrew from northern Vietnam, leaving behind a network of spies to serve their conspiracy. The battle for the list of agents becomes the focus of the story, demonstrating the silent sacrifice and determination of the people of Hanoi to protect the capital.

At the premiere, Major General, People's Artist Nguyen Cong Bay, Director of the Ho Guom Opera, presented VND250 million (US$10,000) to the representative of the Vietnamese Fatherland Front to help people affected by storms and floods in the northern provinces.

Earlier, the staff of the Ho Guom Theater also donated VND100 million ($4,200) to help people in need.

To mark the occasion, the Vietnam Cai Luong Theater, in cooperation with the Institute for Research, Preservation and Development of Southeast Asian Culture, will present the cai luong (reformed theater) play The Sun at Night of the Century at 8 p.m. on September 28 at the Vietnam Cheo Theater in Hanoi to raise funds to help people affected by natural disasters.

The play praises the merits of Emperor Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue (1753-1792), who transformed the Tay Son Movement from a peasant uprising into a national liberation movement, and honors the patriotism, spirit of solidarity against foreign invaders, and desire to protect peace of the Vietnamese people.

The play helps the public to better understand the life and personality of the hero Nguyen Hue - Emperor Quang Trung, and at the same time contributes to spreading the love for history and national culture among the public.

Other theaters in Hanoi, such as the Central Circus, Tuoi Tre (Youth) Theater, Thang Long Puppet Theater, and Vietnam Puppet Theater, are also holding various performances to raise funds for the disaster victims.
