The 2014 Asia & Pacific Disability Forum (APDF) General Assembly and Conference will be held in Hanoi from November 26 to 29, according to a press briefing in the capital city.

This event, co-organized by the Asia Pacific Disability Organization and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, is expected to attract 500 delegates with disabilities, including 300 from 42 countries.

They will evaluate the implementation of the 2012-2014 Incheon strategy adopted at the previous conference in the Republic of Korea two years ago, with the aims of raising public awareness and promoting the protection of the rights of the disabled in Asia-Pacific countries, as well as accelerating the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

Many activities will take place on the sidelines of the coming APDF General Assembly and Conference in Hanoi, such as an exhibition on organizations of people with disabilities, products made by the disabled, tours to some beautiful places in Vietnam, a walking programme in response to International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3), music and dance performances, and a singing contest for the disabled.

APDF GA & Conference this year will be a great opportunity for participants to share, review and discuss recent development and disabilities issues from various levels, thus raising awareness as well as leading to a better environment for all persons with disabilities in the Asia and Pacific region.

In his congratulatory letter sent to the organizing board, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Politburo member and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, highlighted the significance of the conference, saying this is a good chance for participants to review the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Incheon strategy on the rights of the disabled, particularly those who are women and youths.
