Agro-forestry, seafood exports skyrocket

Agro-forestry and seafood exports in the first nine months of 2014 jumped 11.4% from a year earlier and reached US$22.66 billion, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In September alone, Vietnam earned US$2.76 billion from agroforestry and seafood exports.
 
 
Over the past nine months, rice exports reached 5.02 million tonnes, earning US$ 2.29 billion. This represents a 5.2% decrease in volume and 1.6% in value compared to last year’s corresponding period.
During the period, Vietnam experienced a sudden increase, estimated to be 3.1 times more in both volume and value compared to the same period last year, in its rice exports to the Philippines.
The US is the largest seafood products import market, followed by Japan, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and China.
Exports of seafood products reached US$5.65 billion in the first nine months, or 21.6% more than that of the same period of last year. 
Germany and the US remained the two largest coffee export markets for Vietnam.
Coffee exports reached 1.35 million tonnes, earning US$2.81 billion, accounting for 31.9% in volume and 27.9% in value. 
The US, China and Japan remain the largest wood import markets for Vietnam.
In the first nine months of 2014, timber and wood exports gained a year-on-year increase of 13.5% to reach US$4.41 billion.
