Agro-forestry-fisheries export rises yearly 9% in 2011-2015
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat said at a conference in Hanoi on January 5 to review the sector’s 2015 performance that the export turnover of the agro-forestry-fisheries products reached 140.6 billion USD in the 2011 to 2015 period, a growth rate of 9% year-on-year.
The export turnover of these products gained 30.14 billion USD in 2015, increasing by 54.6% in the comparison to 2010. Of which, ten exports list in the “1 billion USD” club included rice, coffee, rubber, tra fish, shrimp, cashew nuts, pepper, vegetable, cassava and woodwork.
The agricultural sector targets to reach 31 billion USD in the export turnover of agro-forestry-fisheries in 2016 and 39-40 billion USD by 2020, minister Phat stated.
According to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development during the period 2010-2015, the sector’s GDP witnessed a 3.13% growth rate, surpassing the 2.6-3% target set by the 11th National Party Congress. The rate is expected to reach 3-3.5% in 2016 and 2.5-3% in the 2016-2020 period, he added.
In order to implement these targets, Phat highlighted that the sector will focus on restructuring and improving production value and efficiency as well as developing post-harvest preservation and processing.
The sector will also maintain and use flexibly the areas for rice growing to ensure food security while improving the efficiency of land use and increasing income for farmers, minister Phat said.
