Adhesive tape artists on tour in Vietnam
13:34, 2016/12/14
Tape Art Collective, a group of young German artists based in Berlin, will introduce their unique performances in HCM City and Hanoi from December 14 to 18.
Inspired by the possibility to create something new out of an everyday object, the group mostly works with tape as a medium since 2011. With roots in the urban art movement, their work ranges from complex and colourful tape and light installations to minimalist black and white murals.
Their tape artworks can be found in a variety of places, such as underground nightclubs, abandoned buildings, showrooms and galleries.
While focused on Berlin, Tape is active in many other cities, nationally and internationally, with recent and ongoing projects in Egypt, Spain, Qatar, Bulgaria and the UK.

"We create artworks made solely out of adhesive tape - tapes of all colours, sizes and materials. Our artworks range from room-filling installations to abstract structures combined with light projections and classical tape art murals. We strive to push the boundaries of what most people perceive possible to do with ordinary tape,” the artists say on their website.
Since tape art is a very young art form, people are amazed by the idea itself and the ability to witness the creative process first hand. The group often creates artworks in live performances with the audience given a chance to interact with the artists and to follow the progress of the work.
Only three of its six members are in Vietnam - Stephan Meissner, Stefan Busch and Nicolas Lawin. Yesterday they organised a workshop with 30 participants at Hanoi Creative City, showing them how to develop ideas and create artworks.
An exhibition of artworks created by the Berlin-based Tape That centre and by participants of the workshops will open on December 14 at the German Embassy in Hanoi. The event will also include a performance of DJs Jane Leilas and Linh Su.
The group will then move to HCM City to organise workshops at Mai’s Gallery (3A Ton Duc Thang Street) and at the International German School on December 15 and 16.
The last day of the event will consist of an exhibition at Mai’s Gallery where the best artworks produced at the two workshops will be shown.
