The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and the National Energy Efficiency Program's Executive Board had jointly held a ceremony on December 12 in Hanoi to award the Green Energy title to facilities and construction works.

Specifically, 16 establishments received the five-star Green Energy title, another 22 were recognized with the four-star title, and another 39 obtained the three-star rating.

Among them, 13 facilities have applied 100 typical solutions, saving 7,825 TOE (ton of oil equivalent), or a savings of VND88.4 billion (US$3.7 million) for a three-year project.

These establishments plan to save 12,643 TOE in the next five years, equivalent to VND146 billion ($6.2 million).

Another 12 energy-intensive facilities have implemented 59 solutions, saving 382 TOE or VND4.1 billion for a three-year project. They are expected to save 645 TOE in the next five years, equivalent to VND7.2 billion.

The department has helped 57 establishments and companies to carry out energy audits, another 20 installations to apply the energy efficiency forecast system, and has developed 55 green energy use models with more than 1,000 typical technical solutions.

Hanoi's facilities receive the four-star green energy title.

According to Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the Department of Industry and Trade and Permanent Deputy Head of the Program, the ceremony honors enterprises that use green energy and replicate typical energy-saving solutions, helping to promote efficient energy management and use and improve the city's energy efficiency.

The program demonstrates the city’s determination to reduce energy costs for businesses in the process of international economic integration.

Lan added that over the years, the city had adopted energy-saving technology solutions for production and commercial establishments, offices, public lighting, and homes, developing new and renewable energy to meet power supply, ensure energy security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment in the city.

In addition, the city has strengthened technical support for production and business establishments to build energy efficiency indexes, apply high-performance equipment and advanced technology, and save energy in management and operation.

The total energy saved in the city was 131.3 kTOE this year.

Last year, Hanoi led the country's energy savings with 122.4 kTOE, reaching 1.57% of energy consumption against expected demand, according to preliminary assessment results from 17 provinces and cities.
