A thousand runners join the 2018 Kizuna Ekiden Relay Run for Traffic Safety
The 2018 Kizuna Ekiden Relay Run for Traffic Safety aimed to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
The 2018 Kizuna Ekiden Relay Run for Traffic Safety kicked start in Hanoi on November 18, with nearly 1,000 runners. The event is organized by the Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the Mainichi Shimbun Group of Japan.
The 2018 Kizuna Ekiden Relay Run for Traffic Safety has the participation of 202 teams and competed in a 14km relay around the Hoan Kiem Lake. Vietnam’s team C10 from the Ministry of Public Security won the race.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh said that in the recent years, the relations between Vietnam and Japan have been unceasingly developing intensively, extensively and effectively. This can be seen in various aspects such as politics, economy, culture, national defense – security.
Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Van Thanh described the 2018 Kizuna Ekiden Relay Run for Traffic Safety as one of great significance on this occasion, as it created a chance for the police and enterprises of the two countries to enhance their cultural and sport exchanges, thus consolidating and strengthening their solidarity, friendship and mutual understanding.
The holding of the event right on the day of the world’s remembrance of the victims of traffic accidents helps educate the need to abide by the traffic law, as well as improve the sense of responsibility of the forces in ensuring traffic safety and order, Nguyen Van Thanh added.
The traffic death toll in Vietnam fell from 13,000 in 2010 to 9,000 in 2017.
