80% of the population to join health insurance by 2020
The Prime Minister has approved a strategy on the international integration of the social insurance sector by 2020 and orientations to 2030 aiming to maximise all resources and favourable conditions of international integration in building the country`s sustainable, efficient and modern social welfare system.
The strategy targets to reach over 80% of the population joining health insurance by 2020. It also strives to have about 35% of labour force participating unemployment insurance, 50% of total workforce have social insurance by 2020.
The social insurance sector tends to cover the social insurance for all workers and health for all people, building the modern, professional and efficient sector to meet the requirements of national industrialization, modernization and international integration.
Under the strategy, Vietnam will join international agreements in the field to serve the demands of employers and employees in the international integration period.
According to the strategy, the sector has been asked to perfect social and health insurance policies and their implementation for labourers in bilateral and multilateral agreements, helping narrow its gap with other nations in the region.
In addition, a modern social insurance management model is expected to be finished by 2030, meeting the globe’s trend of the free flow of labour while ensuring all Vietnamese citizens, including overseas Vietnamese, will benefit from social and health insurances.
Besides, the sector will strengthen international cooperation with numerous countries, territories, regional and international social welfare organisations, as well as the European Union, North America and the Middle East and Africa.
