The event also drew the participation of state officials, heads of ministries, branches and agencies, artists, students and 7,000 local residents.
The event was part of the activities marking Vietnam Sports Day (March 27) and the 70th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s appeal for mass participation in sports activities (March 27, 1946-2016).
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy highlighted that President Ho Chi Minh’s call for all people to exercise to stay healthy is still relevant today.
Right after the ceremony, the delegates and local residents ran around Hoan Kiem lake in an ebullient atmosphere.
Some 7 million Vietnamese people in 63 provinces and cities across the country participated in similar activities on the same day.
The event aims to encourage people to exercise regularly for better health.
