6-month health checkup a must for top-ranking officials
Ngoc Thuy 11:25, 2018/03/02
Before being promoted to a higher position, officials have to go through a comprehensive medical check, according to a recent plan approved by Politburo member Tran Quoc Vuong on March 1.
Top-ranking officials are also required to undergo health checks every six months, a move aimed to keep the government physically healthy.

The decision will apply to key government leaders, including the Communist Party Secretary, the President, the Prime Minister, and the Chair of the National Assembly, with daily medical checkups.

Their deputies, Party leaders of cities and provinces, and top military officers will also be subject to health examinations at least once a week. Meanwhile, Politburo members will have at least two medical checkups a week, depending on their health conditions.

Their results will play a key factor in deciding if officials should remain in office.

Under the new system, top government officials will only be allowed to travel overseas for medical reasons if approved to do so by the special Party unit.

The Politburo, the Party's decision-making unit, also advised officials to adopt healthy lifestyles with regular exercise and limit the consumption of alcoholic drinks. That said, they are only allowed to take dietary supplements under instruction and close supervision of the special Party unit and the hospital.
