2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival to kick off from February 2
The Hanoi cultural department, the organising board, said that the 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival will be organised at the Literature Lake in Hanoi`s Temple of Literature from February 2-15.
The organisers evaluated the qualification of calligraphers through a test held earlier this month.
According to the organising board, the contestants are asked to write beautifully and correctly with good composition. Their performance must be able to showcase writers' ideas in calligraphy.
Calligraphers will be set up around Literature Lake after passing this test.
Calligraphy is considered an art that is appealing to all ages. In addition to senior calligraphers, many young ones with a passion for the art are qualified to write at the festival.
Writing calligraphy is popular for local people during the Lunar New Year (Tet). The festival aims to welcome the New Year as well as promote the Vietnamese tradition.
The 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival will attract nearly 100 calligraphers from Hanoi.
An exhibition with the theme "While drinking water, remember its source" will take place at the opening day of the festival. The exhibition will showcase nearly 100 art works of Nom calligraphy and Vietnamese romanised language script by famous calligraphers. These calligraphers whose works are on display at the exhibition will also participate in the booths of the 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival.
The 2016 Calligraphy Writing Festival will take place at the Literature Lake in Hanoi's Temple of Literature from February 2-15.
During the festival, calligraphers will write from 8.30am to 8pm everyday, except for February 7 (the Lunar New Year's Eve), they will write through 2am the following day.
Vice Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Truong Minh Tien affirmed that the department has implemented measures to enhance the quality of calligraphy at this year's festival.
