2016 ASEM Youth Week to be organised in Hanoi and Quang Ninh
2016 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Youth Week in conjunction with the Model ASEM, themed “Stronger actions to address the hunger challenge”, aims to raise awareness among the youth of their potential in poverty eradication.
The ASEM Youth Week, the first of its kind to be organised in Vietnam, will take place in Hanoi and the northern province of Quang Ninh from April 1-7.
The week will be chaired by the Central Committee of the HCM Youth Union in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), British Council (BC) and the ASEF University Alumni Network (ASEFUAN).
The ASEM Youth Week is an initiative released by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and co-sponsored by Brunei, Laos and Ireland, which was approved at the 10th ASEM Summit in October 2014 in Milan, Italy.
The events aim to raise awareness among the youth of their potential in poverty eradication, and provide them a platform to take action in the fight against hunger, contributing to ASEM’s efforts in implementing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
It will be an opportunity for Vietnam informing the country’s achievements in realising its Millennium Development Goals to international friends.
The week is expected to attract about 100 youths and students from 30 ASEM member nations.
At the Model ASEM, participants will act as leaders to discuss three pillars of ASEM, including politics, economy, and socio-culture.
