145 works selected for the final round are typical works, reflecting the political, socio-economic, national defense and security characteristics of the country. They are reckoned to have a large impact on the public.
The National Press Award 2017 is a great event for the Vietnamese press to honor the best authors and works with high quality in terms of ideology, politics, content and performance.
According to Ho Quang Loi, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalism Association and Vice Chairman of the Council of the National Press Awards 2017, the council decided to raise the prize values from the 2017 season, with each A prize winner receiving up to VND100 million (US$4,400).
The 12th National Press Awards attracted 1,753 entries from 155 press agencies and individuals across the country.
There have been no major differences in the quality between works of central and local press agencies, Loi said, noticing that reportages and documentaries made by local reporters were highly appreciated.
Regarding the 2018 edition, Loi underlined that a special prize will be chosen from A prizes and it will be kept secret until the award ceremony. A confidential group of critics will be set up to give further evaluation of the works that made their way to the final round.
After 12 years in place, the National Press Awards has drawn participation of press agencies and journalists nationwide. The event aims to honor authors and group authors with excellent media works.
Addressing the press conference, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao also appreciated the role and significance of the National Press Awards. The deputy minister hopes that journalists will consider the award a necessary and important playground to write the works with better quality.
