12th National Party Congress attracts foreign media interest

Nearly 150 reporters from more than 20 overseas press agencies have registered to carry news on the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which is underway in Hanoi.

Deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education Nguyen The Ky, who is also Director of the Press Centre of the 12 th National Party Congress, said major foreign press agencies such as AP, AFP, Reuters, ITAR-TASS, Xinhua News Agency, China People’s Daily, China Central Television and Al Jazeera TV channel of Qatar have sent their reporters to the event.
Tan Qiuyi, a reporter from Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia, said she arrived here with another colleague and a cameraman.
The reporter said this is the first time she has carried news on Vietnam’s National Party Congress, adding that she has used her limited Vietnamese to interview delegates so as to have the latest and most accurate information about the event.
Dominique, a French reporter, said the Congress offers an opportunity for her and other foreign journalists to learn about the writing style of the Vietnamese press circle.
Luke Vargas, a reporter from the US based Talk Media News, praised the well-equipped Press Centre and said he plans to question a number of delegates about Vietnam’s foreign policies stated in the Congress’s Resolution and other documents, which are of Talk Media News readers’ concern.
He voiced his hope that he will soon return to Vietnam to cover other events in the country.
According to Ky, the foreign reporters’ participation testifies to the international interest in Vietnam, especially the 12th National Party Congress.
Vietnam always keeps its door open to foreign friends and believes that overseas press will report with honesty and fairness about the country, the official said.
