The national committee for blood donation said at the conference on January 21 that Vietnam collected 1.15 million blood units in 2015, exceeding the year’s target rate of 17.8% and increasing 9.7% againt 2014.
Over one million units of blood donated in 2015 mainly came from volunteers, meeting about 60% of overall demand for medical treatment.

In the previous year, a lot of donation campaigns, such as “Red Sunday” and “Red Journey” which were organised on the national scale, achieved remarkable results.
Localities which have 1.3 percent of their population donating blood included Hanoi, HCM City, cities of Da Nang and Can Tho.
However, the blood shortage often occurred in summer and prior to the Lunar New Year, especially blood type A and O. The repetition rate of donation was just above 40%, lower than the figures in Japan, Singapore, Australia, at between 60 and 70%.
At the session, the national committee for blood donation said that it targets to collect 1.2 million blood units in 2016.
