10 US-funded footbridges inaugurated in An Giang
Ten pedestrian bridges funded by the US Marine Forces Pacific at a total cost of US$728,900 were inaugurated in Long Xuyen city of An Giang province on May 30.
A project to build 10 reinforced concrete bridges with a loading capacity of 1 tonne each got off the ground in October 2013 to replace bamboo bridges in the locality.

Robert Ogburn, Deputy Principal Officer of the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, said the investment was sourced from the Department of Defense’s humanitarian aid programme.
From 2000, the programme has provided more than US$40 million in aid to build infrastructure and schools for especially difficult and war-torn areas, hoping to improve the living conditions of local people.
The programme will be continued in Vietnam in the coming years, he said.
