General Secretary Trong made his remarks at the meeting with Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as the latter paid a two-day visit to Vietnam on October 15-16.

Trong also appreciated the outcomes of the Russian official's meetings with Vietnam's top leaders.

During the two-day trip, Vyacheslav met National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, State President Vo Van Thuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Trong said that Vyacheslav's visit will help strengthen the relations between the two national assemblies and accelerate the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He said that Vietnam always treasures the valuable assistance and support provided by the people of the Soviet Union and Russia during wartime and socio-economic development.

"Vietnam and the Vietnamese Communist Party always respect the friendly, comprehensive and strategic relationship with Russia," Trong said, adding some suggestions to strengthen the Vietnam-Russia relations.

The Chairman of the State Duma of Russia's Federal Assembly said that despite different viewpoints, political parties in Russia and the State Duma are highly interested in bolstering relations with Vietnam.

Russia sees Vietnam as a top partner in the Asia-Pacific region, he said, as he announced the outcomes of his working sessions with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

The Russian top legislator Vyacheslav said that the State Duma of Russia would strengthen the partnership with Vietnam's, monitor and hasten the implementation of mutual agreements inked between the two nations, and accelerate bilateral relations in economy, trade, national defense and security, culture, and education.

More cooperative activities expected

At the meeting with Vietnam's State President Vo Van Thuong today (October 16), Chairman of the State Duma of Russia's Federal Assembly Vyacheslav said that the two nations are not only comprehensive partners but also friends to each other.

The leadership predecessors of both nations have established a profound relationship, and it is now the time both nations' serving leaderships sought new ways to develop two-way relations, he said.

He said that the Vietnam-Russia relations have made progressive moves in recent years, and he expected the two-way ties to grow stronger in the future.

Vietnam's State President Vo Van Thuong said that Vietnamese people have deep affection for Russia, especially a majority of Vietnamese scientists and scholars have emerged from studying in Russia.

The Vietnamese President suggested that the two nations organize more meetings for high-ranking officials, foster economic and trading activities, and restore transport and travel between Vietnam and Russia to the pre-pandemic level.

He also appreciated that Russian authorities have supported overseas Vietnamese people to settle, study and work in the country. President Thuong hoped there would be further assistance for the Vietnamese living in Russia.

Inter-parliamentary cooperation committee's conference

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and his Russian counterpart Vyacheslav Victorovich Volodin co-chaired the second conference of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Committee today (October 16).

The Vietnamese and Russian national legislative bodies pledged to promote and strengthen the comprehensive strategic relations between the two nations.

The two sides shared reports and recommendations to accelerate joint efforts in politics, economy, trade, investment, energy, transportation, finance and banking, science and technology, digital transformation, information and telecommunication, education and training, and culture and tourism.

Hue and Vyacheslav emphasized the important role of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in bolstering the Vietnam-Russia relations. The two legislators agreed to strengthen the ties in regional and international forums and drive the two governments to better implement mutual agreements.

The two officials and the two national assemblies also reached the consents on exchanging information, policies, and legal issues in a wide range of matters such as digital economy, cybersecurity, and high technology development.

Government commitments

At the meeting with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that economic and trading relations between Vietnam and Russia have yet to reach their full potential.

He said that the Vietnamese Government has directed ministries and subordinate agencies to enhance the ties with Russian organizations in oil and gas, agriculture, industrials, education and training, culture and tourism, and science and technology.

The two governments have actively implemented bilateral agreements, especially the Minute of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee's meeting in April 2023, he said.

In his part, the Russian legislator said that Russia wants to make relations with Vietnam stronger for the goods of the two peoples.

Both officials highly valued joint cooperation in multilateral activities, pledged to support each other on international issues, and expected peaceful solutions to settle disputes and conflicts.
