At a meeting with the editorial board of the Economic and Urban newspaper – the organ of the Hanoi government, Mr. Kim Yong-Man, secretary general of the Journalists Association of Korea, said that on the back of the strong South Korea-Vietnam relationship, cooperation between the two countries’ press industry has been strengthened recently, and expected the ties will continue to thrive in the time ahead.

Kim expressed interest in knowing the operations of the Economic and Urban newspaper and its experience in dealing with fake news.

Editor-in-chief of the Economic and Urban newspaper Nguyen Minh Duc lauded the good political and economic ties between Vietnam and South Korea, and the successes of major Korean corporations such as Samsung, Posco and Hyundai in Hanoi.

Recognizing that coverage of Korean companies on Vietnamese media remains modest, Mr. Duc suggested that the journalists associations of both South Korea and Vietnam join hands to work with local authorities to help the Korean business community in Vietnam to further thrive.

Vietnamese press can contribute to Korean firms’ further success, he noted.

Mr. Duc also asked the Journalists Association of Korea to help the Economic and Urban newspaper network and form partnership with a business-focus newspaper in Seoul.

At the meeting, Mr. Duc asked Min Byung Ki, executive director and secretary general of the Samsung Press Foundation, to support Vietnamese media outlets in digital transformation and Vietnamese journalists to build up their capacity, especially in working with Korean companies.

Mr. Min Byung Ki said the foundation was established in 1995, with a view to contributing to the development of the Korean press industry. Initially, the foundation helped fund the training of Korean journalists in the US. It is now focusing in holding courses and workshops to support capacity building of domestic journalists.

Satellite companies of Samsung have received good cooperation from Vietnamese media, including the Economic and Urban newspaper, Mr. Min said.
