Hanoi's distributors to sell 300 tons of Hai Duong lychees

For the distribution of lychees from the northern province of Hai Duong, the cooperation of Hanoi's functional agencies, enterprises, supermarkets, and wet markets is urgently needed.

Vietnam BigGreen Clean Food Company will sell about 250 - 300 tons of Hai Duong lychees through its retail stores and business partners nationwide during the main lychee harvest season in 2023.

The information was announced at the product showcase event for Thanh Ha lychees in Hai Duong Province on June 10 in Hanoi, jointly held by the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Hai Duong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Luong Thi Kiem said that the total lychee cultivation area in the province is estimated at 8,800 hectares, with an output of about 60,000 tons.

More than 50% of the production will be consumed domestically, while the rest will be exported to Japan, the US, Australia and Europe.

The province needs strong support from functional agencies, enterprises, supermarkets and wet markets in Hanoi to distribute and consume lychee, especially in June, the peak season for this product.

In response to the request from Hai Duong, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen The Hiep stressed that Hanoi is a big market for goods, especially fruits and agricultural products from all over the country.

Hiep added that to help Hai Duong farmers sell their lychees, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade will connect lychee growers with retail systems such as supermarkets and stores selling products under the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) program in the city.

"Districts, communes and market management committees will set aside shelves for businesses and traders to sell their Hai Duong lychees directly," he explained.

The city leaders also urged departments, agencies, and People's Committees of the capital's districts, cities, and communes to make joint efforts to overcome difficulties in utilizing, transporting, and consuming fruits and agricultural products from Hai Duong Province.

Nguyen Tien Hung, director of Vietnam BigGreen Clean Food Company, stressed that relevant departments and agencies in the northern province should take the initiative to guide farmers to produce under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, ensure quality, food safety and hygiene, and build brands for modern distribution channels and retail systems in Hanoi.

Hung added this is not the company's first sale of Hai Duong lychees. In 2022, the company sold 50 tons of Hai Duong lychees.
