It is part of the city’s plan to implement the national program on sustainable production and consumption by 2023. The plan, issued by the Hanoi People’s Committee, emphasizes raising awareness and strengthening the social responsibility of individuals and organizations for sustainable production and consumption.

The city sets its target of reducing consumption of raw materials in the manufacturing industry by 3-4% by the end of 2023. It will also encourage producers and trading enterprises to use eco-friendly packages and products.

Under the plan, Hanoi will create a favorable environment for the capital’s potential enterprises to connect investment and business with those operating in the international supply chain network.

The city will also support businesses to apply innovative measures and methods in all stages of production and distribution towards sustainable development.

In addition, the city aims to raise awareness of sustainable lifestyles and consumption in 70% of districts and towns, nearly 80% of industrial zones and clusters, and 50% of craft villages.

In recent years, many retailers such as WinCommerce and BRG Retail have offered free eco-bags for customers, partly contributing to implementing the national goal of banning single-use plastic bags in supermarkets and shopping malls by 2026
