“Yen’s Life” to be introduced at 5th ASEAN film festival
“Cuoc Doi cua Yen” (Yen’s Life) directed by Dinh Tuan Vu will be screened during the fifth ASEAN film festival in the Prague, the Czech Republic, according to the information of the Organisation Board announced during a recent press conference.
The fifth ASEAN film festival in the Prague that will take place from September 13-17 in Lucerna Cinema, is sponsored by the Czech Republic's Barrandov film studio and Vietnam Airlines.
This year's festival, themed “ASEAN-One Vision, One Identity,” aims to bring an insight of the life and people of ASEAN member countries to audiences in the Czech Republic.
Thai Ambassador to the Czech Republic Narong Sasitorn, who is also President of the ASEAN Committee in Prague, said cultural diplomacy is among important programmes being implemented by the committee and ambassadors from the region’s member countries, aiming to help the host country gain thorough understanding of ASEAN’s diverse cultures and strengthen people-to-people contacts.
The committee, which comprises Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, is considering to invite other countries to attend the event to increase its diversity, Narong Sasitorn said.
Minister-Counsellor from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Czech Republic Vu Van Minh said that the festival will foster connectivity between ASEAN and the Czech Republic, while advertising the people and culture of ASEAN member countries in the host country.
“Yen’s Life” is about the life of a 10-year-old girl whose marriage was arranged by her parents.
The film won the Grand Festival Prize at the World Premieres Film Festival in the Philippines in July this year. It also won five prizes at the 19th Vietnam Film Festival last year.
Vietnamese films introduced during the previous events are “Chuyen cua Pao” (Story of Pao), “Canh dong bat tan” (The Floating Life), “Lua Phat” (Once Upon a Time in Vietnam ), and “Dam Me” (Passion).
