Vietnam's set to catch up with Singapore soon in foreign tourist attraction

For the rest of 2019, Vietnam aims to lure more domestic and foreign holidaymakers to realize the year`s target of catering to 17.5 - 18 million foreign visitors and 85 million domestic tourists.
With 15.5 million foreign visitors in 2018 and current pace, Vietnam will soon catch up with Indonesia (15.8 million foreign tourists) and Singapore (18.5 million foreign holidaymakers), according to the annual tourism report 2018 released by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) at a press conference on July 9 in Hanoi.

In 2018, Vietnam welcomed 15.5 million international tourists, an increase of 19.9% over 2017, according to the tourism annual report 2018.
The report shows that Vietnam welcomed 8.6 million foreign visitors in the first six months of 2019, a 7.5% increase from the same period last year. The country earned VND338.2 trillion (US$14.5 billion) in tourism revenues, up 8.4% year-on-year.
Of the total, the number of arrivals from Asian countries continued to make up the lion's share, 77.4%. Among them, arrivals from Thailand have risen 45.4%, those from Taiwan – China, 27% and Indonesia, 22%.
Director General of VNAT Ha Van Sieu said that the tourism industry has taken a number of measures to maintain the growth in number of visitors from China and South Korea in the first three months of 2019.
For the rest of 2019, Vietnam aims to achieve the growth in number of domestic and foreign holidaymakers to realize the year's target of catering to 17.5 - 18 million foreign visitors and 85 million domestic tourists. The total revenues from tourism are expected to reach VND700 trillion (US$30.1 billion).
The report details the achievements of the tourism industry, VNAT's efforts to develop tourism into a spearhead sector of the economy and the future outlook of global and regional tourism.
For the last six months of 2019, VNAT has approved a plan to organize promotional activities in an effort to meet the goals set for the year as well as work with other agencies to hold the Ho Chi Minh City International Travel Expo, the National Tourism Year in Khanh Hoa province and the Vietnam International Travel Mart in Can Tho.
