Vietnam has claimed six medals at the 14th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO 2021), announced the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on May 26.

The Vietnamese team brought home two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, ranking fourth in the contest, after China, Iran, and Japan. Such results are higher than those in previous years.

The two gold medalists are Le Quang Huy, a 12th grader from the Hanoi University of Science’s High School for Gifted Students, and Truong Van Quoc Bao, an 11th grader from Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in the north-central province of Nghe An.

The silver medal went to Ho Ngoc Vinh Phat, a 12th grader from Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

The bronze medals were awarded to Nguyen Vu Dang Huy, a 12th grader from High School for the Gifted under the Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City; Dao Duy Anh, a 12th grader from Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted in the northern province of Hai Duong and Tran Xuan Bach, a 10th grader from the Hanoi University of Science’s High School for Gifted Students.

The APIO 2021 has been held online with the participation of 845 contestants from 35 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese team with 15 contestants took the online exam at the University of Technology under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In the context of the complicated evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam’s organization of the contest has met all the contest’s requirements, especially in terms of safety.

According to the MoET, the Vietnamese team’s achievements at the APIO 2021 continue to confirm the right direction of the education sector in detecting, selecting, and nurturing excellent students.

“Vietnamese team’s results at the APIO 2021 once again affirm the efforts of the students and teachers in training qualification to reach the world”, said a representative of the Department of Quality Management.
