The 15 best works were selected from over 1,000 entries in the propaganda poster competition to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024).

The competition was run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism throughout 2023 and attracted massive participation.

All for Dien Bien Phu Campaign by Do Nhu Dien from Thai Binh province wins first prize.

One first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, 10 consolation prizes, and one merit prize were awarded to 16 of the best works by 15 contestants.

Both the first and second prizes were awarded to painter Do Nhu Dien from the northern province of Thai Binh.

"I was very moved by the indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese soldiers during the anti-French war and decided to depict their images on my posters. The winning paintings took me only a month to complete," he said.

According to Ninh Thu Huong, Chief of the Ministry's Mass Culture Department, all winning works met aesthetic requirements and conveyed the meaning of the Dien Bien Phu Victory to the public.

The Battle of Dien Bien Phu was the culmination of the First Indochina War between the French invasion forces and the Vietnamese army.

The Victory of the Great National Unity of Vietnam, also by Do Nhu Dien, wins second prize.

The battle was fought between March 13 and May 7, 1954, and culminated in a total French defeat which influenced the negotiations in Geneva on the future of Indochina.

Under the Geneva Accords, France agreed to withdraw its troops from all its colonies in French Indochina.

The colorful and attractive posters are seen as the best way to give the younger generation a better understanding of the fighting spirit of the Vietnamese troops, the close relationship between the people and the army men, and the daily life of the people during the anti-French war in Vietnam from 1954 to 1975.

Below are the best works from the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Propaganda Competition.
