Miss Earth Malaysia 2021, Nisha Thayananthan, chose a Vietnamese designer gown to dazzle at Cannes.

At the Cannes Film Festival in France, Miss Earth Malaysia 2021, Nisha Thayananthan, wowed the crowd with an evening gown inspired by the grace and beauty of the mermaid, designed by Vietnamese designer Nguyen Minh Tuan.

It features a seamless blend of emerald and purple hues, with a fishtail silhouette and translucent mesh fabric.

Exquisite details such as sparkling crystals, pearls and shimmering gemstones add an elegant and captivating touch to the design.

The soft, sinuous pearl pattern, combined with 3D textured detailing, accentuates the hips and brings vibrancy to every line of the design.

In particular, the delicate color gradient printing technique, from the intricate embellishments to the layered chiffon, is expertly executed to create a harmonious and striking overall look.

It combines the grace and beauty of the mermaid with the creative vision of fashion designer Nguyen Minh Tuan, owner of Minh Tuan Couture.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to the Cannes Film Festival with my new design. Every year in May, the presence of glamorous gowns and outfits worn by celebrities at Cannes brings the world of film and fashion to life. Apart from my own creations, I also hope to see other Vietnamese brands shine on this prestigious red carpet," he said.

Hollywood star Caylee Cowan also chose two designs by Minh Tuan Couture, inspired by butterflies and Hanoi's iconic Turtle Tower landmark, for her appearance at Cannes last year.

Nisha Thayananthan, 31, is a veteran of many prestigious beauty pageants and is the winner of Miss Earth Malaysia 2021. She is the only Malaysian in the history of Miss Earth who has reached the top 20, the best result for Malaysia in any of the "Big Six" international beauty contests.

Thayananthan is a surgeon who currently lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Ireland. She has received numerous awards including the Inspirational Doctor of the Year 2021 Award, Outstanding Student of the Year 2019, presented by Prime Minister Razak of Malaysia, Asian Volunteer Expert Award, presented by the United Kingdom, Honorary Award from Pahang Charity Organisation and a UNEP Ambassador.

The Cannes Film Festival takes place from 14 to 25 May and attracts the world's biggest names in film, music and fashion.
