Vietnam welcomes 9 million foreign tourists in Jan-July
Vietnam welcomed more than 1.18 million foreign tourists in July alone, a month-on-month increase of 0.5%.
The number of foreign tourists to Vietnam in the first seven months of 2018 is estimated at 9.08 million, a year-on-year rise of 25.4%, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has announced.
Arrivals by air, road in the reviewed period recorded annual increases of 20.2%, 63.3%, respectively.
In July alone, holidaymakers from Asian nations made up 77% of the total number of visitors to Vietnam, up 30.4% against the same month last year.
Most of the Asian markets registered growth in the number of foreign tourists, including China (up 34.1%), South Korea (up 56.1%), Japan (up 6.2%), Taiwan (up 13.3%), Malaysia (up 12%), Thailand (up 9.9%), and Singapore (up 4.7%).
Meanwhile, the number of European tourists to Vietnam rose by 10.4%, with most of them from Russia. Vietnam also saw growth in the number of visitors from five western European countries which are exempted from visas for 15 days namely the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.
In 2018, Vietnam aims to serve 16 million foreign tourists and 80 million domestic tourists, according to General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Van Tuan.
Accordingly, the tourism sector will promote smart tourism and actively carry out promotion activities in the remaining months of the year to attract more tourists in key markets.
From September 25 to October 7, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism plans to hold tourism promotion activities in France, Spain, Italy and Germany in order to attract more tourists from these markets.
