Vietnam welcomes 4.5 million foreign visitors in Q1

In March alone, Vietnam received 1.4 million foreign visitors, a 5% increase from the same period last year.
The number of foreign holidaymakers to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2019 is estimated at 4.5 million, a rise of 7% year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

Arrival by air and road in the reviewed period recorded on-year increases of 4.5% and 26.2%, respectively, while growth was also seen in the number of visitors from all five continents.
In the first three months of 2019, increases were recorded in the number of holidaymakers from almost all markets, particularly Thailand (49.4%), China (37.8%), Taiwan – China (26%), South Korea (24.1%), Japan (8.3%), and Malaysia (11.1%).
Visitors from Europe and the Americas posted rises of 6.1% and 6.3% from the same time last year. In March alone, Vietnam welcomed 1.4 million foreign visitors, a 5% increase from the same period last year.
Vietnam aims to receive about 18 million foreign visitors and 85 million domestic ones in 2019, and earn more than VND700 trillion (US$30.2 billion) from tourism, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In 2018, Vietnam welcomed 15.5 million visitors, a 19.9% increase from 2017, statistics of the tourism authority VNAT showed.
According to VNAT, Vietnam’s tourism revenue was estimated at VND620 trillion (US$26.5 billion) in 2018, an increase of nearly VND110 trillion against the previous year.
Earlier, Vietnam has been named among the world’s 10 countries you should visit in 2019 if you’re on a budget, according to a list released by Traveller, the essential resource for Australian travel lovers.
“The best meal of your life, ans it will only cost US$2. That’s what’s on offer in Vietnam, not just on one rare occasion, but every time you sit down for breakfast, lunch or dinner,” Traveller wrote.
