Vietnam taps the unexplored non-alcoholic beer market
06:32, 2014/08/18
At a time when double-digit alcohol content beers are receiving top billing at pubs and beer gardens across the country, a Vietnamese company is making its footprint brewing non-alcoholic beer.
Saigon-Binh Tay Beer Joint Stock Company (Sabibeco) officially began selling non-alcoholic beer, the first ever brewed in Vietnam, to Hanoi customers on August 17.

Several brands of foreign non-alcoholic beers, principally from Germany and the Netherlands, are currently available in the domestic market, but their retail prices are relatively expensive, ranging from VND80,000 to VND130,000 a can, when compared to regular beer, Sabibeco CEO Van Thanh Liem said.
“Our firm’s non-alcoholic beer is sold at a price, substantially equivalent to regular alcoholic beer prices,” Liem added.
Non-alcoholic beer is believed to reduce the risk of heart disease, liver problems, and gout. More importantly, it may help prevent drinkers getting drunk – one of the root causes of domestic violence and traffic accidents in Vietnam.
