Answing series of questions from reporters regarding the recent operation of China in the East Sea, Deputy Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry Pham Thu Hang once again determinedly stressed.
The affirmation was made at a press conference on January 8 in response to the reporters’ queries relevant to the recent developments in the East Sea. Ms. Hang said Vietnamese competent agencies are tasked to firmly defend the country’s sovereignty, sovereign right and jurisdiction in the waters.

As a signatory to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), Viet Nam always complies with rights and obligations in accordance with international law, contributing to peace, stability, freedom, security and safety of navigation in the East Sea.

She stressed Viet Nam’s consistent policy of settling sea-related issues through peaceful measures on the basis of international law, especially the UNCLOS and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

The Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson also strongly affirmed Viet Nam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes and all acts taken by parties in Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes without Viet Nam’s permission are illegal, null and void.
