Vietnam requests China to cease missile deployment in the Paracels
Cam Anh 08:16, 2018/06/15
Satellite images show a series of Chinese missile systems have reappeared on Woody Island in the Paracel (Hoang Sa) Islands.
The move was protested fiercely by Vietnam yesterday as a serious violation to its sovereignty over the South China Sea, which it calls East Sea.
The missile redeployment to the Woody (Phu Lam as it is known in Vietnam) Island has increased tension, threatened regional peace and stability, as well as security, safety, freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, stated the Vietnamese Foreign ministry's Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang during the regular press conference on June 14.

“Vietnam has sufficient legitimate foundation and historic evidence to claim its sovereignty over the Spratly and Paracel islands in line with international law”, the spokesperson pressed.
"All activities conducted on the islands without Vietnam's consent are illegal, invalid and violate Vietnam's sovereignty. Vietnam demands China to cease all these wrongful acts and withdraw the military equipment it had illegally deployed on Vietnam's Hoang Sa Islands”, Hang added.
In an intelligence analysis released Monday by ImageSat International (ISI), the organization said the China’s surface-to-air missile system had reappeared on the Woody Island, part of the Paracel islands, after its disappearance in early June.
In their initial analysis of the weapon systems' removal, ISI said it was possible they had simply been redeployed to another island, or moved as part of a drill.
