Vietnam yesterday announced its opposes to China’s live-fire exercises near Vietnam’s Paracel archipelago earlier this month.

The action goes against the Vietnam-China Agreement on Basic Principles Guiding the Settlement of Maritime Issues, violated the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (which Vietnam calls East Sea) and negatively affected the negotiation of a Code of Conduct in the waters (COC), she said. It is not beneficial for maintaining the peaceful and stable environment and cooperation in the waters and the good relation between Vietnam and China as well as China and China, especially amid the on-going negotiation of COC.
“Vietnam requests that China put an end to these activities immediately, and seriously respect Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spartly) Islands," she pressed. “Vietnam has full historical evidence and legal basis to historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the the Paracels and Spratlys in accordance with international law”, Hang added.
