Vietnam named among list the most powerful passports in the world
Vietnam ranks 84th among the most powerful passports in the world with 51 visa-free destinations, according to latest statistics of Henley Passport Index 2018.
In Southeast Asia, a Vietnamese passport has the same clout as a Cambodian one, and is only more powerful than Laos and Myanmar.
Japan surpasses Singapore to top the global ranking, offering its citizens visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a record 189 destinations. The Singapore passport ranks second place, tied with Germany, with a total of 188 destinations accessible without a prior visa. The third places go to South Korea, Finland, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden, while the US and UK are at fourth places.
The Henley Passport Index is formulated based on data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world's largest database of travel information. The index surveyed a total of 199 different passports against 227 different travel destinations, including countries, territories, and micro-states.
The region’s biggest economy Indonesia climbed 10 spots from last year, making one of the biggest improvements in the global ranking to claim 69th position.
In the first four months of 2018, Vietnam has received more than 5.5 million international tourists. In which, the number of international tourists arriving in Vietnam in 2018, April was estimated at 1.3 million, raising the total figure for the first four months of 2018 to 5.5 million, up 29.5% over the same period last year, according to General Statistics Office.
Foreign tourists visiting Vietnam in April rose 25.2%, attracted by a wide range of events such as the Festival of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in Hanoi, and the Asian Food and Culture Festival in Hanoi and Quang Ninh province.
Of the total visitors in the first four months, 4.1 million came from Asia, with Chinese tourists topping the list at 1.7 million, followed by 1.1 million from South Korea. Visitors from Europe were estimated at more than 843,000, of which Russian tourists accounted for the largest share at an estimated 262,000.
