The South Korean musician has composed a series of MVs on Vietnam since he moved to work in the Southeast Asian country three years ago.

Vietnam appears splendid with dozens of tourist attractions featured in “Waiting for You – 5000 Years” music video performed by South Korean musician and singer Joseph Kwon.

Being showcased in the MV are famous places namely Sa Pa, Ba Be, Ha Long Bay, Trang An Landscape, Cuc Phuong National Park, Tam Chuc, Tam Coc, Mui Ne sand dunes, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc Island, Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Danang, Hoi An, among others. The places that the artist called ‘heavenly’, ‘fantastic’, ‘pearl island’, and ‘emerald.” Among the places, the French-designed Old Quarter in Hanoi looks different from other places where the couple in MV “go through the old streets together.”

Filmed from May 17 to July 15, “Waiting for You – 5000 Years” composed and performed by Joseph Kwon was released on August 10 as part of an art production program to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-South Korea Relations in 2022.

“Through my songs and the MVs elaborately produced showcasing 19 provinces in Vietnam will attract many Koreans and friends around the world will know how beautiful and attractive Vietnam is. Culture and warm hearts would be other factors drawing international visitors,” Joseph Kwon said.

“Vietnam, memories in your heart forever. Vietnam shares hearts. Vietnam welcomes you,” read the MV.

Before the MVs, Kwon composed a series of MVs about Vietnam namely “Go Vietnam Go Go” (2020); “You Are in My Heart” in Vietnamese, South Korean, and English; “Remember”; and “Cha ca (turmeric fish) or Peace” about Vietnam’s traditional dish. In 2021, his song “Vietnam”, the first time he has sung in Vietnamese, was broadcast on TV channels across Vietnam more than 50 times.

Kwon who is called Joseph Quyen by his Vietnamese friends shared that his love for Vietnam is very natural as he became interested in Vietnam in childhood and takes every opportunity to come to Vietnam to live and work.

“I took the opportunity to learn more about Vietnam when I came to the country three years ago. Since then, my love for the S-shaped country and people has grown much stronger and I told myself to do something to encourage locals to overcome the difficult period of the pandemic. That’s why I compose songs about Vietnam and love for Vietnamese cuisine,” the singer said.

In the next few days, Kwon will release “Butterfly Flakes” MV in Ho Chi Minh City. Both “Waiting for You – 5000 Years” and “Butterfly Flakes” will be launched in non-fungible tokens (NFT) collection – a digital collectible bought and sold using the cryptocurrency – on the Kitego platform.

Kwon graduated from the National Conservatory of Firenze, in Italy, and worked as the conductor of the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS)’s choir. He moved to work in Vietnam in 2019. He has taken part in many culture and music events in Vietnam including the Korean-Vietnam Nam Culture Fair 2020 in Hanoi, and Music Talk by Voice of Vietnam, among others.
