Vietnam bags two gold medals at Int'l Chemistry Olympiad
The Vietnamese team’s achievements in the IChO 2019 continue to confirm the right direction of the education sector in discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students.
Vietnam has claimed two gold medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2019 (IChO 2019), announced the Department of Quality Management under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on July 30.
The gold medal was awarded to Tran Ba Tan, a 12th grader of Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students. With score of 95.47/100, Tan ranked 4th out of 37 gold medal winners.
Especially, Tan also gained the "Best Practical Exam" award with a score of 40/40 together with candidates from China and Slovakia. This is the first time in the IChO, a Vietnamese candidate achieved a perfect score on the practical section.
Nguyen Van Chi Nguyen, a 12th grader from Lam Son High School of Thanh Hoa province gained 90.71/100 points, ranked 36th among 37 candidates achieving the gold medal.
Nguyen Dinh Hoang, a 12th grader from Nguyen Tat Thanh High School (Yen Bai province) ranked 48th and Pham Thanh Lam, a 12th grader from Le Hong Phong High School (Nam Dinh province) ranked 96th. Both of them brought home the two silver medals.
With the above-mentioned results, the Vietnamese team ranked 5th after China, South Korea, Russia and the US.
The IChO 2019 took place in in Paris (France) between July 19 and 30, with the participation of more than 300 students from over 80 countries and territories.
According to the MoET, the Vietnamese team’s achievements in the IChO 2019 continue to confirm the right direction of the education sector in discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students.
"The result shows the progress of the Vietnamese Chemistry Olympic team, because practice and experiments are not our strengths. This is a positive change in experimental subjects in general, Chemistry in particular in recent years," said a representative of the Department of Quality Management.
