The two sides discussed the outcome of cooperation under signed agreements and set forth cooperative orientations for the coming time.
They expressed their delight at positive development of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, which was reflected through visits of the two countries’ high-level leaders in 2017.
They appreciated the role of defence and military technical cooperation in the partnership, affirming to continue fostering the cooperation in the time ahead.
The two sides discussed and reached a consensus on a military technical cooperation plan for 2018, and exchanged views on contents of the 2016-2020 military technical cooperation plan.
Trường affirmed that the Vietnamese army and people always attach importance to the fine traditional friendship and cooperation with the Russian army and people.
In a related move, according to some foreign media sources, Russia is expected to deliver first Gepard-class frigate to Vietnam in September as part of its plan to supply two frigates by year end.
Vietnam ordered this batch of vessels in 2011 and they were laid down the following year and construction proceeded on schedule despite Ukraine's refusal to supply components in 2016. The Vietnamese navy received in March and August 2011 two Gepard 3.9-class frigates ordered in 2006, built in Russia at Tatarstan's Gorky Shipbuilding Plant, according to Sputnik news.
The Gepard 3.9 is an export version of Project 1166.1 frigates. It is equipped to engage enemy aircraft, ships and submarines, as well as conduct escort missions, patrol and support landing and mine-laying missions.
