The achievements of the Vietnamese national teams at 2022 International Olympiads continue to show the quality of general education in the country.

With 13 gold medals, 12 silver, 8 bronze, and 5 Certificates of Merit, Vietnam continues to rank among the top 10 countries with the highest achievements at the 2022 International Olympics.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) sent seven groups of excellent students to compete in the 2022 International Olympiads and all the contestants won prizes.

Specifically, the Vietnamese student delegation ranked 4th out of 104 countries at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad. The six Vietnamese contestants won two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. Among them, Ngo Quy Dang, from the Higher School for Gifted in Natural Sciences under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi, achieved a perfect score of 42/42. After 19 years since 2003, a Vietnamese student has obtained a perfect score at an international Mathematical Olympiad.

In addition, Vietnamese students took 5th place in the International Physics Olympiad, with three gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. It is also the first time the Vietnamese delegation has seen a 10th grader bag a gold medal. This is Vo Hoang Hai, from the Higher School for Gifted and Talented in Natural Sciences at the Vietnam National University-Hanoi.

In the International Chemistry Olympiad, the Vietnamese delegation placed second with four gold medals. This is the second time that all Vietnamese students participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad have won gold medals.

At the 34th International Olympiad in Computer Science in 2022, the four-member Vietnamese delegation won one gold medal and three silver medals, ranking among the top nine countries and territories.

At the Asian Physics Olympiad, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 8th out of 28 teams, with a silver medal, two bronze medals, and five certificates of merit.

According to the MoET, the achievement of the Vietnamese national team at the 2022 International Olympiads continue to show the quality of general education in the country, even after three years of severe disruptions caused by the pandemic. “Besides, it shows the discovery and nurturing of excellent students is going in the right direction,” the MoET said.

At a ceremony held at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum on December 25 to honor students awarded in international Olympiads and international science and technology competitions, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Huu Do affirmed that the high achievements of Vietnamese students are proof of the relentless efforts of students, teachers and schools on the road to reach the pinnacle of knowledge.

He added that the achievement has contributed to creating motivation in both students and teachers who have been striving to realize the goal of improving people's knowledge, training human resources, and nurturing talents for the country.

The MoET has also awarded certificates of merit to 21 teachers who selected, trained, and organized national teams of selected students to attend international competitions.
