The consultancy unit has coordinated with related agencies to a complete river, topographic, and geological survey for the feasibility report at the end of April this year, according to the provincial People's Committee.
Under the proposed process, the project will be submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and comments in May 2018 before being approved by the People's Committee in September 2019. It is expected that the project will commence in September 2019 with construction taking about 4 years and costing VND8 trillion (US$350 million).
The Standing Committee also agreed with the consultant’s recommendations and required the timely establishment of a Project Steering and Management Committee.
Under the proposed plan, Cua Luc tunnel shall start from Ha Long Street and end at the coastal road in Vinhomes Ben Doan. With official 6 lanes, the tunnel stretch along 1,945m.
This project is essential to open a new and convenient connection between the western tourist areas and the administrative, cultural, and residential areas in the east of Ha Long city, according to the Standing Committee of the provincial Party Committee.
Particularly, once the major transportation works of the province, such as highways and airports, are completed, Ha Long city expects a greater influx of tourists.
